History: | Inspired by the famous painting currently hanging in Buckingham Palace, our Bucintoro II Tapestry reflects the celebratory scene of Festa della Sensa,or Ascension Day in Venice. In Canaletto’s original painting and in our tapestry, the state barges, or Bucintoro, of the Venetian doges are depicted rowing in procession out into the lagoon of the Adriatic Sea. The day was celebrated to symbolize the wedding of Venice to the sea. The woven quality of the tapestry provides texture and dimension with lustrous hues of purple, peacock blue and ivory. Woven in Italy, the tapestry is made from cotton, viscose and polyester for softness and subtle sheen. Lined back and tunneled top for ease of installation. |
