The original design comes from a series called La tenture de la Vie Seigneuriale, woven circa 1520 by Pieter van Aeist, a Flemish master weaver in Brussels and now housed at Cluny Museum, Paris. The theme is of early Renaissance castle life. This piece is done with the mille fleurs, or thousand flowers, background, popular in the 16th century French market.
