History: | God Speed is a Belgian jacquard wall tapestry depicting the 1900 painting by Edmund Blair Leighton (1853-1922). His works show a great beauty and a romanticized view of life in the Middle Ages. Here we see a genteel lady bidding good luck to a knight about to head for battle, near the gate of the castle walls. The beautiful detail work including the stone walls, the gargoyle architecture, the lady's yellow gown, and the knight's red cape add to the richness of the scene . The illumination of the scene is one of Leighton's hallmarks styles. Leighton was a British painter associated with the Pre-Raphaelite and Romantic styles specializing in medieval subjects. This lovely imagery complements the decor of any room to which it is displayed in. |
