History: | Mucha Winter I woven European tapestry cushion cover features the work of artist Alphonse Mucha. Protecting herself from the encroaching elements, the figure in “Art Nouveau-Winter” personifies the season of winter. The scene is set in a forest, the barren tree losing the last of its leaves. The bold, sweeping lines and intricate detail are highlights of the Art Nouveau style of art, which only lasted about 30 years, but remains one of the most readily identifiable styles in contemporary art. This tapestry is based on the work of Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), a Czech artist who lived in Paris. Mucha was one of the pioneers of Art Nouveau, creating several seminal works, including his highly prized Panneaux, a series of works designed around a single theme. “Art Nouveau-Winter” is a fine example of his Panneaux. |
