History: | Les Amours des Dieux, or The Loves of the Gods, comes from a set of nine mythological tapestries, designed by Francois Boucher and woven at the Manufacture Royale de Beauvais in the mid 18th century. The coat of arms at the top are King Louis the XVI's, who commissioned the set. This jacquard wall tapestry tells the story of Apollo and Clyte. Clyte was a water nymph who pined away with love for the god Apollo and was transformed into a sunflower. |
